More Than 2,000 Lawsuits Filed Against German Firm Over Blood Thinner

Reuters reported than over 2,000 lawsuits in the US have been filed against German pharmaceutical firm Boehringer Ingelheim over its blockbuster blood thinning medicine Pradaxa (dabigatran etexilate). The allegation is that the medicine causes severe and fatal bleeding. German newspaper Handelsblatt reported the lawsuit numbers, which the company confirmed. Boehringer noted the information about side effects was in the public domain, and that it risks must be weighed against the benefits of the medicine.
