Medicare-Linked Lawsuits Against Hospital Firm Could Be Consolidated

Modern Healthcare reports hospital chain Health Management Associates, which faces a number of “whistle-blower lawsuits over how its hospitals admit Medicare patients,” may end up facing a consolidated lawsuit. The article says Federal prosecutors and HMA “are trying to consolidate the cases into a single multidistrict docket.” In recent weeks, “seven complaints against” the firm have been unsealed, and “Federal prosecutors have joined the plaintiffs in each of those False Claims Act cases,” Modern Healthcare reports. The company expects to merge with Community Health Systems Inc.
