Alere Recalls Some Blood Clot Test Strips

Forbes reported patients taking “oral anticoagulant drug warfarin (Coumadin)” or receiving heparin injections “should check the brand of their PT/INR test strips and monitoring system.” The article noted that Alere, the maker of the blood clot test strips, has issued an “urgent” recall in US because of a “serious problem: Patients with a therapeutic or near-therapeutic INR reading using these strips have reported having a significantly higher INR when tested by a central laboratory.”
